“In recent years, Guatemala City has become severely plagued with advertising of all kinds. I realized that instead of adding to the problem of visual pollution, I could use what was already there. By adding a simple red circle to them, anyone can effectively turn its meaning upside-down.”

“In collaboration with Christian Ochaita. The slide was clandestinely installed in a cul-de-sac in zone 14 of Guatemala City, as a protest against Mayor Alvaro Arzu, for his lack of interest in providing the City with adequate public areas for recreation.”

“Stop War: Protest piece done in Bloomington, Indiana, amidst the War in Iraq.”

“In collaboration with Alejandro Torun, Alejandro Bustamante, and Christian Ochaita. The swings were clandestinely installed in Guatemala City as a protest against Mayor Alvaro Arzu, for his lack of interest in providing the City with adequate areas for public recreation.”

Wow, sogar in Guatemala habe ich Leser. Gerade hat mich von dort diese nette Mail erreicht: “I am an artist currently based out of Guatemala City, and editor of Colectiva’s daily blog. I am writing because I’ve just launched my website, which showcases a selection of my personal work in the Visual Arts that I want to share with you. In it, you’ll find a mix of multidisciplinary pieces done in both controlled gallery spaces and urban environments. Lately, I’ve mostly been focusing on sight-specific installations, whether they be indoor or out, that keep a very clean and conceptual line of work. Given the type of work that you feature in rebel:art I think you’ll have a preference towards my street work. It includes an adbusting campaign titled “Urban Clowns” where I walked around Guatemala City placing circular red stickers directly over the noses of the models in print ads on the streets. By doing so, I was able to instantly invert the meaning of the whole advertisement and almost always guarantee a smile on the passerby’s face. Also, together with the help of some friends, I’ve been collecting used tires, painting them in bright colors, and hanging them as swings around the city. This particular project is called “City Swings” and is a response against our Mayor’s inefficiency in providing much needed areas of public recreation in our city, as well as the deficient handling of waste.” Schön zu sehen, wie sich manche Ideen auf der ganzen Welt verbreiten.
