“Vincent Wittenberg und Guy Königstein aus Eindhoven haben für ihr Projekt “Streeeeeet Interventions” das Verhalten der Bewohner von Bat-Yam, Israel im öffentlichen und privaten Raum untersucht. Dabei kam heraus, dass die Leute unter anderem Kleidung, für die sie keine Verwendung mehr haben, in Plastiktüten an die Straße hängen, damit Bedürftige diese weitertragen können. Zudem haben sie die Angewohnheit Stühle vor ihre Häuser und Läden zu stellen, auf denen sie im Laufe des Tages immer mal wieder Platz nehmen. Den Bedürfnissen der Einwohner entsprechend haben Vincent Wittenberg und Guy Königstein eine Garderobe an einem öffentlichen Platz gebaut. Dort können die Leute in Zukunft nun ihre aussortierte Kleidung feinsäuberlich aufhängen. Außerdem haben sie noch eine Sitzbank entwickelt, der man bei Bedarf einzelne Teile entnehmen und am gewünschten Ort platzieren kann. Damit sich die Kette an den Stühlen löst, muss man nur wie beim Einkaufswagen im Supermarkt eine Münze einwerfen, die man nach dem Gebrauch auch wieder zurück bekommt.” / “The Streeeeeet-interventions are based on a field-research we carried out in Bat-Yam in April 2010. In our research we have explored the intersection-points between the private, collective and public spaces. We have found out that the borders between those spaces are not strict and even flexible and that many residents do cross the border, a fact that seems to be peacefully tolerated by the authorities and other residents. The municipality of Bat-Yam is very open to new ideas and tries to work with the residents instead of working against them. We agree with this positive attitude and position our interventions in this context. The Streeeeeet-space aims to blur the borders between the different private, collective and public spaces. The examples of crossing borders that we have seen in the city confirm the potential of the Streeeeeet in the urban context. During our stay in Bat-Yam we encountered different phenomena taking place at such border points, some of which we have emphasized and enhanced in our design-interventions.” Via: iGNANT
