Nach “Leben an der Hauswand” jetzt “Leben in einer Box”: Der chinesische Künstler Xing Xin protestiert gegen die Ein-Kind-Politik in China – und hat sich in Venedig in eine Box eingesperrt. Dort möchte er die nächsten 49 Tage verbringen. “He is protesting China’s one-child policy, and to pass the time in his box, which measures roughly six-and-a-half feet long by three feet high and three feet wide — making it akin to the size of a coffin — he’s counting the characters in the 150 books that constitute China’s nine-year compulsory education program. Adding a voyeuristic aspect to the performance is the fact that there are cameras inside the box, allowing visitors outside to view the ordeal on two waterproof, outdoor televisions.” Via

Das neue Projekt des tschechisch-finnischen Künstlerduos Ondrej Brody & Kristofer Paetau: In Rio de Janeiro wurde der Hund Mambo so dressiert, dass er bei dem Befehl “Andy!” auf eine Leinwand pinkelte. “Andy Warhol used to ask his friends, assistants and occasional visitors to piss on the canvases. So the main difference is the process of teaching a dog to piss on a canvas at command and to film this painting process when it first took place in the streets of Rio de Janeiro. Wow, nature is the true Rock’n Roll: der italienische Sound Designer Diego Stocco hat eine experimentelle Komposition für einen Baum geschrieben – und als Instrument wird dabei natürlich auch nur dieser Baum “bespielt”. “In the garden of my house there’s a tree with lots of randomly grown twigs. It looks odd and nice at the same time. One day I asked myself if I could create a piece of music with it. To tune the tree I picked a fundamental note and tuned the twigs by trimming them with a pencil sharpener. I used two Røde NT6 and a NTG-2 as microphones, combined with a customized stethoscope. I recorded the tracks live on a Pro Tools LE system. I didn’t use any synthesizer or sampler to create or modify the sounds. All the sounds come from playing the tree, by bowing the twigs, shaking the leaves, playing rhythms on the cortex and so on.” Auch die anderen Musikclips sind absolut sehenswert: “Music From Sand” oder “The Burning Piano“. Die beiden brasilianischen Künstler Gabriel & Tiago Primo leben seit Mai in Rio de Janeiro wortwörtlich “on the edge”: “Two brothers in Brazil are literally living on the outside of a building in Rio’s Old Center and all in the name of art. Since May, twenty-seven-year-old Tiago Primo and his twenty-year-old brother Gabriel, have been sleeping, working and eating on the side of a building 33 feet (10 meters) up in the air for twelve hours every day. They plan to continue this display until August.” Via
“Seit Februar 2009 ist eine Gruppe von Studenten der Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart und der HBK Saar im Stuttgarter Osten unterwegs. Die Auseinandersetzung der Kunststudenten mit dem östlichen Stadtgebiet und seinen Lebensbedingungen wird sich in unterschiedlichen Werkformen äußern, die von plastischen Arbeiten bis hin zu Aktionen und Bürgerbeteiligungen reichen können. Projektphase I: Am 25. Juli werden Arne Menzel und Byung Chul Kim das Gebäude Gablenberger Hauptstrasse 22 einer Umwidmung und Umgestaltung unterziehen. Marco Schmitt wird sich unter die Besucher der “Ostnacht“ mischen und mit ihnen eine Aktion durchführen. Bernardete Fernandes wird Ende Juli temporäre Skulpturen aus ortsbezogenen Materialien und Fundstücken im Stadtraum erstellen (Abb. 1). Ende August werden Franz Helfferstein und Nikolaus Schroth das Pilotprojekt “Solidarrecycling” im Stadtgebiet von Gablenberg und Gaisburg starten. Damit Menschen in prekären Lebenssituationen auf ihrer Suche nach Pfandflaschen keine Mülltonnen mehr durchstöbern müssen, bieten die beiden Künstler weithin sichtbare Behälter an, in die Pfandgut zur weiteren Verwertung eingestellt werden kann.” Mehr zum Thema “Unterstützung für Pfandflaschensammler” auch hier. Neuer “Urban Fashion Trend”, völliger Blödsinn oder vielleicht doch eine schöne, subversive Aktion? Entscheidet selbst… Auf jeden Fall scheinen sich jetzt die ersten Sticker für Schuhe zu verbreiten: Die “Bumper Sticker” parodieren die in den USA verbreiteten Autoaufklebern mit Sprüchen wie “Ich halte auch für Kaugummis”, “My other shoe is a rollerskate!” oder “How is my walking? Call…”. Apropos: Schöner kleben! Nicht vergessen, der Stickeraward 2009, läuft gerade wieder – und bis zum 30. August können wieder Eure schönsten, verrücktesten, wildesten und bösesten Klebearbeiten einreichen! Via
BR1 aus Turin beschäftigt sich in seinen Projekten mit muslimischen Frauen und ihren sozialen Bedingungen: “As you can imagine, here in Turin, my posters are seen as an ambiguous subject. Some people mislead and rip them, while others love them. I would like to make people know that there is nothing strange with this particular subject: Muslim women are equal if compared to Western women. My Muslim women are represented in daily life situations: they are mothers, grandmothers and daughters, smoking, taking pictures and smiling. My message is: pointing out that Muslim women have the same needs and necessities of the majority of Western women. Certainly, the only exception is the veil. The veil changes in different countries, and here comes the sociological aspect of my work: I am very careful in rendering the different types of veil, the Maghrebi veil, the Afghani burga and the Iranian chador.
