* Ausstellung I: Am 5. Februar 2012 wird gefeiert – und zwar: 96 Jahre Dada. Zur aktuellen Ausstellung “Dada New York II: The Revolution to Smash global Captialism” im Cabaret Voltaire in Zürich wurden eingeladen: The Yes Men, Reverand Billy und Voina. “Ähnlich wie zur Geburtsstunde von Dada, liegt Zürich auch heute im Auge eines tobenden Orkans. Was 1916 der erste Weltkrieg war, ist heute die Schlacht ums Grosskapital, die insbesondere den Euro-Ländern viele Opfer abringt. Mit Ausnahme von ein paar wenigen Demonstranten stirbt zwar auf dem Schlachtfeld eines Wirtschaftskrieges kaum jemand mehr, trotzdem bleiben viele Menschen auf der Strecke. Das Perfide: Jedes Opfer ist selber schuld! Entweder ist sein Businessplan nicht genug optimiert, der Lebenslauf zu brüchig oder es ist grundsätzlich zu wenig flexibel; nur wer an sich selber glaubt, geht nicht unter! Hier setzt das Cabaret Voltaire mit folgenden Postdada-Fragen an: Wie würden die Dadaisten auf die heutige Zeit reagieren? Welche Instrumente, Kanäle, Bühnen und Plattformen würden Sie benutzen? Wie würden sie die Schlachten um das Grosskapital und die Ressourcen kommentieren? Was wäre ihr eigener Schlachtruf? Wie würden sie die total ökonomisierte Gesellschaft ad absurdum führen?” Via: Mail

* Ausstellung II: Mark Jenkins stellt im Gestalten Space Berlin aus (Vernissage 19.1, 18.30-21; Ausstellung bis 26.2): “Gestalten is proud to present the first solo show in Germany by the renowned American artist Mark Jenkins, who uses ordinary packing tape to create life-size human or animal forms. Jenkins is best known for his clever installations of these startlingly lifelike tape sculptures in urban and natural spaces as well as indoor environments such as cafeterias, toilets, and art galleries. This expert staging of his work, especially his clothed human figures, provokes various—often strong—reactions from passersby and expands his interventions into powerful performances. “Glazed Paradise” will feature new sculptures specifically conceived for this show and made by the artist in Berlin, which will be unveiled at the January 19th opening. These will be complemented by a limited edition of smaller tape sculptures. In addition to Mark Jenkins’s sculptural work, “Glazed Paradise” will include photographs of select installations that reveal how compelling the interaction between his artwork and its environment can be. To coincide with the show, Gestalten is releasing the artist’s first monograph The Urban Theater: Mark Jenkins. * Buchtipp: “Establishing a Critical Corpus” von Thomas Hirschhorn. “Establishing a Critical Corpus” is a charged and intense “textbook,” providing texts and topics “to think about”: Hirschhorn’s work in general, a specific part of his work, one of his pieces, issues that extend beyond his work, and so on. These fully illustrated texts constitute the core of the book. As the artist says: “This publication asserts and gives form to one of my goals: ‘Establishing a Critical Corpus.’ A ‘textbook’ is what people are interested in: a critical and sovereign approach to art, to an artwork of today, and—in this case—to my artwork.”

* Buchtipp II: “Rohstoff” von Jörg Fauser. Gerade erst gelesen (ca. 10 Jahre zu spät), ein Buch wie ein doppelte Ohrfeige – ehrlich, hart und doch so optimistisch. “Aus der Nähe sah dieses Pflaster interessant aus, es gab sogar einen Riß, der durch den Asphalt lief, und in dem Riß sproß ein Grashalm. Wenn das so ist, dachte ich, kannst du auch aufstehn.” Absolute Pflichtlektüre!

* Filmtipp: “Der Musikethnologe Eckehard Pistrick und der Filmemacher Björn Reinhard verbrachten viele Wochen in der unwegsamen, zerklüfteten Landschaft, um diese archaischen Traditionen zu dokumentieren. Im Mittelpunkt ihres Filmes “Polyphonia” stehen der Muslim Arif und der orthodoxe Anastas – zwei Berghirten, die trotz religiöser Schranken eng miteinander befreundet sind.” Via: Mail, thx!

* Filmtipp II: “Untitled“: “A fashionable contemporary art gallerist in Chelsea, New York falls for a brooding new music composer in this comic take on the state of contemporary art. Adam Goldberg (Two Days In Paris) plays the composer, whose work calls for paper crumpling, glass breaking and bucket kicking. Marley Shelton (Grindhouse) plays the gorgeous Chelsea gallerist, whose latest show features an artist, played by Vinnie Jones (Snatch), who employs taxidermy and household objects. Further complicating the affair is the composer’s brother, played by Eion Bailey (“Band of Brothers”), whose highly commercial art work – the financial backbone of the gallery – is sold to corporate clients discreetly out of the gallery’s back room.” Via: Jasmin
