Carbomb III
September 21st, 2007

Die Künstler Jack Segbars und Jonas Staal stellen Anfang September in Rotterdam unter dem Titel “Carbomb III – Anatomy of a car bomb wreckage” die rostigen Reste einer Autobombe aus: ”During the festival ‘De wereld van Witte de With’ (The World of Witte de With) in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, Jack Segbars and Jonas Staal, visual artists, will exhibit on September 7-9, 2007, two car bomb wreckages in public, in front of the Boijmans van Beuningen museum. The two wreckages have been the leftovers of a car bomb attack on Al Mutanabbi Street in March 2007, which caused around thirty-eight deaths. On September 7 and 8, the two wreckages will be on display as art objects, with minimal lighting, in front of museum Boijmans van Beuningen. September 9, from 12-3 PM, will feature manifestation, entitled ‘Anatomy of a Car Bomb Wreckage’. A selection of Dutch art critics, journalists and writers will lecture on the symbolic representation of the car wreckages in the media and the relation between art and the mediation of global conflicts. Is it the case that art, in search of a socially dominant position (under influence of the media and politics), is seeking desperately and opportunistically a relevant mode of existence? Why is it the case that nowadays, contemporary art focuses predominantly on external issues and conflicts?” Via: Kunstbetrieb
